Digital Support Volunteer - Benefits Navigator Programme - Belfast

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

As a Digital Support Volunteer, you will receive training on government benefit systems, focusing on the Universal Credit application requirements. You will then assist clients to register on the online Universal Credit system and support them to navigate the process.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Set-up an email address and generate a password
  • Assist with completing online benefits applications with support from Adviser
  • Liaise with staff in the service regarding client needs
  • Talk with service users about their needs
  • Support clients with their online application
  • Keep records of interaction
  • Make suggestions for improvements to Supervisor
  • Participate in an evaluation of the project
  • Report back to Supervisor on any issues
  • Ensuring required ID is in place prior to move to Universal Credit

ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of office administration (Microsoft Office Packages) although some training will be provided
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Interest in supporting those affected by severe mental illness
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentialit

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the Voluntary sector, or previous knowledge of those affected by severe mental illness.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All appropriate and agreed expenses will be covered as per MindWise expenses policy. 

Enhanced Access NI checks will be carried out on all regulated positions and successfully returned prior to placement. To assist in the role volunteers will be expected to attend and fully engage in guidance and support meetings with an allocated volunteer supervisor and will have access to regular training.

SELECTION

Volunteers will be inducted via the Active 8 volunteer programme. They will be invited to an informal interview with the Volunteer Manager and the Service Manager.
