Co-ordinator - Peer Advocacy

The Human Health Project NI (HHP) (in partnership with MindWise) is seeking to recruit a Co-ordinator for a new Peer-Led Advocacy service. The service aims to help people experience, with the assistance from specially trained Peer Advocates a greater sense of fulfilment and wellbeing, based on support provided by an Advocate who has potentially a shared or similar ‘lived experience’ of health and well-being matters. 

MAIN DUTIES

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the peer advocacy project planning.
  • Involvement in the recruitment, selection, training, and support of volunteer peer advocates.
  • Provide regular updates to the HHP project team to ensure objectives are being met.
  • Collaborate with HHP and MindWise staff, volunteers, and clients through one to one and group meetings.
  • Introducing MindWise peer advocates to MindWise clients and managing and overseeing their interactions through the case management system.
  • Delivering weekly monthly, quarterly, half yearly peer advocate and client’s activity, feedback and outcomes reports.
  • Complete a range of online training courses provided by MindWise and HHP including mental health awareness, health and safety, patient advocacy, and patient education.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and raise any safeguarding issues or concerns with the relevant staff member(s).
  • Commit to the project for the allotted time of at least 6 months.

ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE

          Essential

          Experience in patient/client advocacy

          ICT proficiency – understanding of Google Forms for data collection

          Good organisational skills

          Good interpersonal and communication skills      

Desirable

Previous experience in leading/managing a project

Previous experience of working with, or previous direct knowledge of those affect by severe mental illness in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

The training, support, and supervision you will receive will provide you with the skills and experience not only to work on this project but also could be valuable for other roles that you may be seeking in the future. You will also join a fantastic team of volunteers with a wide range of life experiences.

All appropriate and agreed expenses will be covered as per HHP expenses policy. 

Enhanced Access NI checks will be carried out on all regulated positions and successfully returned prior to placement. To assist in the role volunteers will be expected to attend and fully engage in guidance and support meetings with an allocated volunteer supervisor and will have access to regular training.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the services that support and advocate clients for MindWise and HHP. This opportunity will allow development of skills in project planning, utilizing databases and gaining knowledge and experience of leading a team. In addition, this opportunity will also help develop networking skills and build on professional relationships which are both regional and worldwide.

SELECTION

Volunteer applicants will be inducted via the Active 8 volunteer programme. They will be interviewed by the MindWise Volunteer Manager, Area Manager and HHP CEO.
