Befriending Volunteer - Belfast

The main focus of this role is to provide befriending support to clients and to support them to access community and support facilities. This role offers you the chance to build personal confidence as well as support clients in the local community. This role provides volunteers with an opportunity to develop their own self-confidence in befriending as well as learning from their peers.

Main duties

  • To meet with a client once per week in a public area, most likely coffee shop
  • Facilitate client in becoming independent and integrated in community
  • To ensure health and safety is maintained at all times
  • To support service user social interaction in their local community
  • Report back to supervisor

Abilities and experience

Essential

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety
  • Interest in supporting those affected by severe mental illness

Desirable

Previous experience of Befriending or Mentoring. Previous experience within the Voluntary sector, or previous knowledge of those affected by severe mental illness.
