Befriending Volunteer - Downpatrick

The main focus of this role is to provide befriending support to clients and to support them to access community and support facilities. This role offers you the chance to build personal confidence as well as support clients in the local community. This role provides volunteers with an opportunity to develop their own self-confidence in befriending as well as learning from their peers.

Main duties

  • Support clients to access community activities or support via telephone or face to face
  • Facilitate clients to reintegrate into community post Covid period
  • Befriending support
  • Empowering and promoting access to groups/social hubs/other agencies
  • Signposting and practical support to access other supports and information
  • Scheduled daily/weekly contact based on agreed need
  • To ensure health and safety is maintained at all times.
  • Report back to Supervisor on any issues and updates.

Abilities and experience

Essential

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety
  • Interest in supporting those affected by severe mental illness

Desirable

Previous experience of Befriending or Mentoring. Previous experience within the Voluntary sector, or previous knowledge of those affected by severe mental illness.
