MindWise's response to the Lancet antidepressant study

MindWise respond to the study published today in the Lancet journal on the effectiveness of anti-depressants.

Edward Gorringe, Chief Executive of MindWise says,

"We welcome the findings in the research that anti-depressants were effective at reducing the symptoms of moderate to severe depression. MindWise believes that anti-depressants can be an important tool in achieving recovery, but that like all medications, be they for physical or mental health, they must be used intelligently and appropriately. A range of therapies and treatments, some non-clinical, can be effective in supporting those suffering from depression. An intelligent, patient-centred approach using a range of support, which may include anti-depressants, is most likely to be effective for any given individual. It is therefore essential that proper resources are allocated to supporting good mental health in Northern Ireland, this should include the timely availability of psychological therapies support on referral through GPs".
