Share your story: mental health and money

Mental Health UK is a new charity which has brought together the strength and expertise of MindWise, Rethink Mental Illness, Support in Mind
Scotland and Hafal.

Mental Health UK is keen to hear from people who have experience of mental health and money problems, in order to help understand the
current issues in this area and support Mental Health UK to create a pioneering Mental Health and Money Advice Service, which will offer
support for people experiencing both mental health and money difficulties.

Sharing your story and engaging in media work

If you have experienced mental illness and money problems yourself or through a close family member or partner and would like to talk
about it to raise awareness you could become a media volunteer.

By sharing your story, you could provide a powerful voice and unique viewpoint to highlight issues which might help people facing the
same challenges or improve understanding amongst others.

What is involved?

Initially, you will speak to a member of the media team, to discuss you experiences. Then, it depends what opportunities arise, but
there are a number of ways that media volunteers play their part. You could be interviewed for a national newspaper, glossy magazine
or a radio show. You could be asked in as a guest on news programme on TV such as BBC Breakfast or Channel 4 News.  We wouldn’t
put you forward for anything that you weren’t comfortable with and the choice to take part would be entirely up to you. You would also
have the right so stay anonymous if you would like to (although this might limit what we could put you forward for). We also would never
pass your details onto a journalist without your permission.
