No one could be expected to be able overcome mental health problems without support. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, it takes great strength and courage to reach out and ask for help.
The first step in accessing help is to reach out and talk to someone about what you are experiencing whether that be to a friend, partner, family member or your doctor.

We recognise that talking about mental illness but the sooner you seek help and support from professionals the better. Most doctors will have some prior knowledge and experience of patients with mental illness and sources of help and support and are often an excellent first port of call.

You should feel comfortable and able to talk to your doctor, and to have them explain things to you in a manner you understand. If you are unhappy or uncomfortable with your doctor you may want to consider seeking out one you feel comfortable with. Once you do find one you like, it is best to stick with them so that they can get to know you and your case.

For anyone, going to the doctors can bring on anxieties and frustrations, but seeking out professional help will be the first step in terms of understanding, learning to live with and recover from, mental illness.
