A consultation on the reform of bail law and practice in Northern Ireland was launched by the Northern Ireland Law Commission on 1st October 2010. The Consultation Paper can be downloaded on the Northern Ireland Law Commission website: www.nilawcommission.gov.uk

Bail decisions relating to children and young people are considered in the Bail Consultation Paper and the NILC would like to obtain the views of young people with an interest in or experience of the criminal justice system.

The consultation period ends on the 31st January 2011 and the views received will inform the Commission’s Final Report on bail which will be accompanied by draft legislation. The Final Report and the draft bill will be forwarded to the Department of Justice for consideration.
