NI Anti-Stigma Campaign 2007

In 2007 a major awareness and anti-stigma campaign designed specifically for Northern Ireland was launched on the steps Stormont. The campaign attracted considerable interest from both the public and the media and included television advertising, bus and billboard campaigns, mental health awareness talks and events and considerable partnership working with the local media to raise public awareness on the significance of mental illness as a public health issue.

The campaign featured a very distinctive visual image of a young man with the associated slogan, My Problem is Schizophrenia – What’s Yours?

Although it had significant impact, post-campaign research showed that a great deal more needed to be done to raise general awareness of mental illness and to challenge some of the prejudice and stereotypes that often surround mental illness in Northern Ireland.
